Laura Haley joined SLG’s Rio Grande Valley office in 2014. She began her legal career as a briefing attorney for Justice John S. Anderson of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, after which she practiced for seven years with local commercial-litigation firms. Laura then spent six years as Senior Corporate Litigation Counsel for Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc., where she tried cases, managed outside counsel, and advised the company about document retention, e-discovery, internal investigations, and corporate governance. Before joining SLG, Laura practiced with the Haley Law Firm in Harlingen, Texas.
Laura attended the University of Houston, where she earned a B.A. in English and an M.A. in English Literature. She taught English at the University of Houston and Houston Community College before enrolling at South Texas College of Law, graduating magna cum laude. While in law school, Laura competed as an oralist and brief writer for South Texas’s appellate advocacy teams.
Laura adds depth to SLG’s collective experience in business and commercial litigation, oil and gas litigation, product liability, personal injury, and employment law. She is also well versed in maritime and admiralty litigation and bankruptcy law. In addition to writing appellate briefs and motions, she assists trial counsel by consulting in litigation matters, monitoring trials, and appearing as additional counsel when appropriate. She also serves as outside general counsel to small businesses.
